This was an exercise from my class with watercolorist Shari Blaukopf. Working with one color will help you to recognize values easier before moving on to trickier color combinations. Edge work is also easier with the one color. Here, I used Peach Black from Holbein but a variety of colors that can be worked dark to light include: Indigo, Paynes Grey, Sepia and Burnt Sienna.
I enjoyed the online class “Pearology” with artist Martha Lever. This is a fun class working in watercolors using the glazing method. Starting out with very light washes of light yellow pigments and gradually layering in a bit of quinacrodone gold. Here is a link for the workshop Pearology Class.
